Practicing Muslims in Amherst community still face challenges

Although Mohamad Barham, ’12, does not specifically wear anything to show that he is Muslim, his religion is still an integral part of his life. Barham and his family are from Palestine, where most of the population is Muslim.

Mahmud Abdelrahim Barham, like other Muslims, prays five times a day because of the Prophet Muhammad’s teach- ings. This shows Barham’s piety and devotion to Allah. Although Barham feels very good about living in Amherst, he feels that it is sometimes hard for his friends to understand his culture.
